We arrived in Las Vegas airport around mid-day, on arrival at our hotel our pre-conceived idea’s of Vegas were confirmed.  The place is crazy.  The whole ground floor of our hotel was a casino, covered in lights, machines and elaborate looking bar’s and this was only one hotel off ‘The Strip’.  We checked in to our room and headed straight out to the food court for lunch.

To get the full picture of what Vegas is all about, we decided to take the free shuttle bus to The Strip.  The Strip is a straight road in the centre of the city where the main concentration of hotels and casino’s are.  We spent the next couple of hours visiting the various different hotel attractions, including a lion enclosure in the lobby hall of MGM Grand hotel and the impressive water fountain display of Bellagio Hotel.

One attraction we visited was an interactive CSI experience, we had to examine a crime scene, taking notes of everything.  Then process the evidence and decide who the killer was.  We both figured it out and received our CSI Deploma certificate.

Back in our hotel Aimee was keen to play the roulette table, as she played I watched and drank the free drinks they kept bringing me.  I’d been told if your playing you drink for free but didn’t really believe it.

After a late breakfast we played a little pre new years eve roulette.  I managed to double my money and we decided that was a good time to cash in and prepare for the evening.  We took the free shuttle back into the centre where we would spend NYE.  NYE was seen in on ‘The Strip’ with five different hotels all displaying fireworks.  With all that excitement we walked back to our hotel where we sat at the roulette table again until 4am.  This ended in us going to bed being $10 down.

The next day was a late start, having brunch at 2pm, we then walked into the centre to visit two different attraction’s.  Both these being displayed in the Luxor Hotel (the one that’s shaped like a pyramid and clad with black glass).  The first being the ‘Bodies’ exhibition, this was real human bodies displayed in all different forms.  Some in full but with no skin showing all the different muscles and tendon’s, others just single parts of the body that had been carefully removed, preserved and displayed.  Is was a very interesting exhibition.  The next was the ‘Titanic’ artefacts exhibition, this included what they call the ‘Big Piece’ an actual chunk of the ship about 4m * 6m, which was brought up from the sea bed in 1998 if I remember rightly.  Unfortunately no cameras were allowed in either.

We took a taxi back to our hotel for another evening of roulette.  This ended in being $110 up overall a good winnings for 2hrs playing.

The next day we had a day trip booked to ‘The Grand Canyon’ and ‘Hoover Dam’ so we went for an early night.  Unfortunately, due to the many different time zones, confusing jet lag and late nights we didn’t sleep a wink.

Hoover Dam.

5am we were collected by our tour operator.  First stop the Hoover Dam, a pretty iconic sight, the photo doesn’t really do it justice.  We then had a 3 hour drive to the Grand Canyon so we both attempted to catch up on some sleep.  There was four different sections that we could visit all connected by buses included in the tour price.

A long journey back to town we finally arrived at 7.30pm.  As this was our last night we thought it would be rude not to gamble a bit more, so we changed clothes, went for dinner and headed back to the roulette table.

We split $100 between us and both swiftly lost everything.  That was our $100 winnings, so in all we were back to $0.  I was then sent up to the room by my new, slightly grumpy looking wife, to get more cash.  $140 we had left, so we split it between us and off we went.

After a couple of hours playing we had managed to make $140 on top of want we had put in earlier.  We decided we had been very lucky not to have lost everything so we called it a day.

The New York hotel by night. You can just make out the roller coaster.

Our last day on honeymoon, we checked out 12pm and went to the New York Hotel to go on the hotel roller coaster.  This actually turned out to be pretty good fun.  We took a taxi to the airport and began our journey home.

All in all an amazing trip.
